St Luke’s Gospel tells us that Jesus’ ministry is just beginning. Handed a scroll containing words from the prophet Isaiah, Jesus reads from it:
‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’
Jesus quite clearly identifies himself with these words. They are known as the Nazareth Manifesto. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians tells us that:
‘There are three things which last forever: Faith, Hope and Love and the greatest of the three is Love.’
Members of the Congregation of Kilmacolm Parish Church are striving to live these key words and are committed to being:
- a worshipping congregation
- a welcoming congregation
- a working congregation
