Christian Aid Week
10 – 16 May 2020
At this time of Christian Aid week, we may not be able to meet together as we are used to doing – but we can worship and pray together, uniting us as Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
This year we focus on the difficulties faced by the poor people of Kenya, more especially the ‘dry lands’ which are the result of a national drought emergency in 2019, causing over 2.7 million people to be without adequate food.
This is a seven day devotional resource for you to follow each day throughout CA week. Each day there is a Scripture Reading and a short reflection, followed by a prayer and a thought for us to contemplate upon.
You are invited to read and reflect and then respond with prayer each day through Christian Aid Week.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (Genesis 1 : 1-2).
In 2020 that same Spirit of God hovers over our Planet, which is facing a climate emergency.
People living in poverty are on the front line of this climate emergency. They are losing food, water, homes and family.
Every day, people walk further, dig deeper and build stronger to survive. Unrelenting, determined. They battle the worst of a climate crisis they did not create. This is deeply unjust.
As we walk through the story of Creation in this daily devotional, we invite you to learn, lament, reflect and respond together.
For the past seven days, we have journeyed from awe to lament, from hope to joy, and we have had the chance to respond in thought and Prayer.
Thank you for following the Devotion and we hope and pray that you have gained a better insight into the difficulties faced by the people of Kenya ~
As our friends in Kenya say : “Asante Sana ! ” (Thank you very much!).
Let us pray ~
Heavenly Father, Lord of Heaven and Earth, give us understanding, compassion and a willing heart to help those who suffer because of our abuse of the world which you gave us to live in and care for. We apologise that our stewardship has been wanting in a desire to stretch the worlds resources almost to breaking point.
Bless Rose, Florence, Rosalia, bless their families – and bless all who are affected by climate change as they struggle to provide the necessary food to feed themselves and their loved ones.
May we, who have plenty, do what we can to help them, be it financially or in our prayers.
Hear our heartfelt prayers loving Father for we bring them to you in the name of our dear sweet, precious Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
This year, Christian Aid is focusing on climate injustice.
We have seen the plight of our brothers and sisters in Kenya – and sadly, their story is repeated around the world.
With every gift, with every voice, with every prayer, we help to stop this climate crisis.
Please help if you can.
